BANNED BOOKS WEEK
(SEPTEMBER 25 - OCTOBER 2)

Four posters from last year’s Banned Books Week presented by Schlow Centre Region Library

Wait, LOTR was banned for being Satanic?  That doesn’t even make sense.  Obviously no book banning makes sense, but that one is fucking absurd.  There’s no deity structure whatsoever in Middle-earth.  How could it promote devil worship if there are no alternate deities to promote, period?

Also, Tolkien was a Catholic. And was instrumental in the CS Lewis’ conversion from Atheism to Christianity. So. Someone didn’t do their research.

All of this is so true and also: Where The Wild Things Are is “too scary”? I was the biggest scaredy cat of a kid and it was my favorite book! People are crazy.

These masterpieces of literature are being banned for reasons that are ridiculous, and yet some schools are making Twilight required reading.

we talked about this in class
this whole thing is just stupid. Why do books have to be banned for everyone just because you think its “not appropriate” or whatever. People should be allowed to read what they want.

((banned books are ridiculous.))

((for independent reading, our teacher doesnt give a shit what we read as long as its in the required genre and isnt based heavily on sex.))

((for our sci-fi unit im reading Idoru, and that has a lot or cursing and a few explicit scenes……………))

Wait, wtf. They were seriously banned?

Books shouldn’t be banned.

Have they not read Fahrenheit 451???

I’ve seen Harry Potter get a lot of flack before, and I guess I could see Alice in Wonderland getting some too, but The Lord of the Rings? Where the Wild Things Are???!!?!

Is it that they’re afraid these kids are gonna grow up with an imagination or something??
